a little about me
Hi! I’m Lindsay
I am an Alberta farm girl, turned “professional student,” turned lost and confused mess, turned addiction counsellor, turned nomadic betrayal trauma therapist. After my own experiences with infidelity and heartbreak, I discovered that wandering this beautiful blue planet of ours was one way that I was able to reconnect with my sense of self. And because I have not yet figured out where I want to put down roots, I thought, “why not just keep moving?”
I am an introverted people person, if you can make sense of that. I do not do well with big crowds or small talk. But get me one on one and tell me about your hurts or what lights you up and I am all in! When I am not in session I can usually be found in some artsy cafe, bookstore, nature or getting entirely lost in a random country.
I believe that our bodies bear the burdens of our past and this manifests as trauma symptoms, depression, anxiety, chronic illness etc. I deeply believe in the healing power of being able to tell our story. I also believe that in order for our storytelling to BE healing, there are certain necessary conditions that must be met, like being seen, heard, valued and safe, which is one hundred percent my mission when working with the lovely folks who choose to enter my virtual therapy space.
Education,Training and Experience
I am a Registered Therapeutic Counsellor with the Association of Cooperative Counselling Therapists of Canada and I hold a Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology.
I am a Certified Sex Addiction Therapist trained in betrayal trauma recovery through the International Institute for Trauma and Addiction Professionals. I also am an EMDR therapy provider trained by an EMDRIA approved program. In my practice I also often use a variety of interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Solution Focused Therapy,
I began working as an addiction counsellor in 2015 and since then have worked in both inpatient and outpatient treatment settings in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Thailand. In January 2020 I made the leap into virtual private practice!
